Type 2 Diabetes

Around 1 in 10 Americans have diabetes and about 90% of them have type 2 diabetes.

Type 2 diabetes most often develops in people over age 45, but more and more children, teens, and young adults are affected.

You may be able to manage your diabetes with healthy eating and being active, or your doctor may prescribe insulin, or oral diabetes medicines to help manage your blood sugar to avoid complications. You still need to eat healthy and be active to keep it under control.

Losing weight, eating healthy, or having bariatric surgery can reduce the risks of diabetes.
